Recently I was preparing to buy some ‘giveaways’ for ‘Kanjake’ during the ‘Navratras’, and had thought of plastic tiffin boxes for the little girls! I was gently admonished by a friend who said -‘don’t you know that plastic tiffins are now being disallowed in some schools?’
I was truly surprised and decided to find out more.
In 2018, on World Environment Day, the Education Department of the Haryana government banned the use of ‘single-use’ water bottles in schools and government offices.
It was heartening to learn that the schools affiliated with CBSE had been asked to sensitise students on environmental conservation and banned plastic bottles, wrappers, packaging, cups, plates etc. They were encouraged to use steel, glass or aluminium. Rotary Public School has banned plastic bottles, tiffins as well as aluminium foil!
So something to learn! We should all try washable cloth napkins and stainless steel boxes as far as possible for our daily lunches!
