Plastic as most of us know is a major source of environmental pollution. Plastic takes hundreds of years to decompose polluting the Environment. By reducing plastic use we can also reduce carbon footprints.
We all are busy with our daily schedule and forget our responsibility towards Environment. Recently I was visiting a grocery cum vegetable sales store in my block and I noticed him using plastic bags that were not of good quality. So I brought to his attention how these plastic bags are dangerous to the Environment. Also around his shop, there was a lot of used plastic scattered like ice cream wrappers, and chips & milk wrappers. I asked him to remove them before they got into drains. He was very cooperative and only was waiting to be highlighted.
I proposed cloth bags and he immediately agreed to purchase and display them in his shop. “1 cloth bag is only for 10 rupees”. He instantly bought 100 bags.
I immediately took the initiative and posted a message in our group requesting residents to purchase cloth bags & participate in the “Say NO to Plastic” movement. We were graciously supported by MCG.
