A few months back, I was in US on a business trip and had a meeting with my regular customer. He told me that he would not be interested in further discussion unless I have SUSTAINABLE product and product-packaging. Having heard this term very first time, I said that I do not understand the meaning of “Sustainable” product and their packaging. Then, he mentioned in simple words that he did not want anything related to plastic.
Here, I would like to inform you that I am engaged in an export business and use plastic bag to pack my products to avoid scratch etc. Plastic has a significant environmental impact due to its non-biodegradable nature.
Trust me or not, my customer left a very good impression on my heart, and I told myself that from this day I will not use plastic in my packaging anymore. It reminded me that some time back the Government of India put a ban on plastic carry bags, which shopkeepers are still using to give their goods to consumers; and Indian consumers are happily buying their goods in those plastic carry bags.
Not only shopkeepers give their goods to consumers in plastic carry bags, but India’s top brands too are packaging in plastic bags. When I step in any retail, small shop or big store, all the big brands have used plastic bag packaging to pack their goods. It seems to me that they never heard the word SUSTAINABLE.
We, as a public, should take the initiative to teach the big brands not to use plastic bags to pack their goods. Save the environment and save the future of our children.
The shopkeepers in Noida, I see, use plastic bags. Not only do they sell the goods in plastic bags but have also seen that after taking off the plastic bags they throw the bags on the street.
