The Colony Park is the pride of any neighborhood; its upkeep and security are of primary concern to the residents. The park comes under MCD, and the Delhi Government gives a grant to RWA under the DPGS Scheme, which partly covers the funds required for its upkeep. Over the past six months, at the request of RWS, Saurabh Bharadwaj sanctioned funds for various projects in the park, including a new walking track, main gate, play equipment, air conditioners & chairs for the Glass House, benches, wheelbarrows, backlane concrete work, etc., but the one thing that has caught everyone’s eye and lightened up residents’ hearts is the ‘New Pathway Lights’ that have been installed.The projects were approved much earlier, but the GRAP restrictions delayed them, which are still underway. Delays apart, these much-needed works out of MLA LAD funds are a boon, as MCD is always cash-strapped and is unable to deploy funds for beautification as it barely manages to pay staff salaries.There were a few messages posted on WhatsApp stating, What is the big deal? It has come out of the taxes people pay. TRUE, but the fact remains, LAD Funds are discretionary funds, and the MLA can choose to deploy them in areas where their vote banks reside. To that extent, the projects taken up in the park should be welcomed. With the new government in place, it is hoped that development will pick up pace.
