Single Senior Citizens
Old age itself is very troublesome, especially for those who are deprived of family and living alone. This loneliness becomes depressing when you find nobody around but for the 22 glass doors and cemented walls. Those who are healthy and like to socialise go down and meet their friends sometimes.
As the age catches on, but day by day the strength depletes, and they are unable to socialise.
Unwillingly they live like prisoners in their houses. This becomes more painful when they are suffering from any illness or disease.
Recently, an incident took place in Wellington when a single senior citizen lady found her B.P. to be shooting sky high. Alarmed, she called her friend, who herself was 82 years old, a super senior citizen, asking her to take her to a doctor. Anyhow, she took her to the doctor, and the doctor suggested admitting her to the hospital immediately because of her high B.P. which was 240 and there was a risk of brain haemorrhage or paralysis. That patient called her son and daughter-in-law, who live in New Delhi, but they were in the office and did not answer her call. After a long time, the daughter-in-law picked up the phone and told the super senior citizen attendant it would take 2 to 3 hours to arrive. Waiting was risky, so management helped and called an Ambulance from DLF, and the lady was admitted to Paras Hospital, where, after tests, doctors put four stents. A life was saved.
This was an eye-opener for all the senior citizens who were staying alone. Keeping this type of problem in mind, Sanjay Yadav, Security Manager, now goes to all 22 single senior citizens every Sunday and asks about their well-being and challenges. During the week, he also contacts them by intercom. Mr Sanjay said that some ask for maids, A.C. service, download some apps or any phone number they need for any help.
Sanjay said that he assures them that whenever they need any help, they can call him on his mobile or intercom. Even in his absence, his assistants will reach out to help them. The team has got the contact details so if there is any emergency, the management can contact them.
When asked how he felt after helping the senior citizens, he said that he felt satisfied after assisting them, and when they thanked and blessed him, he felt elated.
This is a very good initiative and all condominiums should follow it for the help of single senior citizens.
