S Block welfare Society arranged a grand function on Sun, 26 Mar, in the park to felicitate Saurabh Bhardwaj on his elevation as a Minister in Delhi Govt. & Dr. Shelly Oberoi on becoming the mayor of Delhi.
MC SBWS was quite thrilled when the invitation was accepted by both the VIPs at a very short notice.
Both the guests arrived at the appointed time and the function started with the lightning of ”Akhand Jot“ by Dr Oberoi.
Enchanting ”Ganesh Vandana“ thru a dance performance was the inaugural item.
Dr. Shelly Oberoi and Saurabh were presented bouquets & garlands by the MC CC members of SBWS and by some other Sr. residents of the block. Small silver statues of “Durga Maa” and ”Hanuman Ji“ were presented as mementos.

There were thousands of likes & many messages in appreciation.
President SBWS enumerated the various projects, worth about Rs. 50 lakhs done by MLA Saurabh Bhardwaj in S Block over the last eight years.
He also expressed his appreciation for regular financial help from DPGS (Under Delhi Govt) for the maintenance of the park.
The president also requested the Hon’ble Minister and the Mayor to resolve three major issues of S Block in particular & GK 1 in general.
- Stoppage of sewer flow in the nala behind S Block.
- Use of Park for holding religious & Social functions.
- Last mile connectivity, introduction of bus service in GK 1
Though there are many other issues of the block but those were left out to be sorted out in a separate meeting.
Thereafter, Mayor Shelly ji expressed her happiness about the big gathering & the beautiful park. She assured the MC CC members that all functions would be allowed in the park San commercial activities. She empathically declared that ladies of cultural committee can visit her any time in her office, if there is any problem in future.Saurabh ji, as usual, assured all help to S Block for resolving various issues.
A Nariyal breaking ceremony was performed for starting the much awaited Rain water harvesting pit in the park, to trap the rain water in the park catchment area, to recharge the ground water level (Incidentally the project started on 5 April ‘23)
MC CC members were quite thrilled to have their photos clicked with the Minister & The Mayor.
Five ”Garba” dance performances were showcased by professional dancers to the enjoyment of all.
More than 250 residents, who were present, were treated by serving snacks of ”Aloo tikki“, ”pau bhaji“, ”dahi Bhalla“ ”papri chat“, Gulab Jamuns & hot tea. Being Navratratri, Kuttu Poori, aloo Subzi & Samyak rice was also served.
