As usual, S Block Welfare Society celebrated 78th Independence Day on 15th Aug with great enthusiasm in the ECO Park. The park & gates of S Block were decorated with national flags, tri-color balloons & kites. Everyone, especially the cultural committee lady members were quite tense that rains may spoil the mood. But rain gods showered their blessings.There was a light drizzle in the morning but it stopped completely by 8.30 am & cool breeze was blowing. Patriotic songs were belted out from the sound systems. Program started sharp at 9 am & the Chief Guest Hon’ble Minister Saurabji came a few minutes before the scheduled time. Saurab needs a lot of appreciation as he mostly sticks to the time schedule unlike many other VIPs.
After the customary welcome notes, a short introduction by MC for the morning, Preethi Gupta & a welcome note by Secy. SBWS, Saurabh Bhardwaj delivered an inspiring speech. In a lighter vein, he said that he was also tempted by the promise made by SBWS that piping hot cholle bhature & gulab jamuns will be served after the flag hoisting. The stalls serving food were decorated in tri- color Bengali style decoration.
After the flag hoisting & singing of national anthem, the customary photo sessions followed.
Brunch of “cholle bhature”, piping hot masala tea & “gulab jamuns” was served to around 235 residents, staff & workers.
