RWCS along with Hearts Beats organised a mesmerizing musical evening on 8 July. Called ’Ek Shaam Amar Geeton Ke Naam…’, the event started at 7 PM at Gangotri Hall.
The event started with the traditional lighting of the lamp with the Chief Guest, Yogendra Sharma (President FONRWA) and Govind Sharma, President RWCS. The evening was anchored by Savita Saxena.
Three talented singers, Smita Tripathi, Dilip Joshi and Suman Bhardwaj presented songs from different eras of Hindi cinema. Instead of a live orchestra, karaoke was used.
Golden oldies of different singers were presented by the singer. To name a few, the songs ranged from Mukesh to Bhupen Hazarika to Kishore Kumar; from Shamshad Begum to Asha Bhonsle to Lata Mangeshkar.
The songs were well-received by the residents whose numbers slowly swelled to 200, filling the whole hall. Grandparents were seen enjoying the songs along with grandkids and friends were smiling away.
So how do you know the audience was enjoying? When you see heads swaying along in harmony; when you see feet syncing with the beats; when people clap and sing along; when they pull out their phones to record the moment….
RWCS had arranged a lavish spread of food with Mithaas restaurant doing the catering in the area behind the hall. Food was offered at a discount of 30%. At 9 PM, half the people rushed out to eat when the food was announced. However, this did not deter the singers who enthusiastically continued to sing. The highlight of the evening was when it was announced that the Kapoors (B -262) had recently marked their 50th Marriage Anniversary. The singers put forth celebratory songs and several residents stood up to dance with the Kapoors. It was quite a fitting end to a beautiful melodious evening that ended around 10:30 PM.
