RWA’s Adventure Members’ Headache

Some RWAs are showing themselves as law-abiding and are protecting their members’ rights. But they forgot to remember that the law of the land is superior to the selfish motives of its members. As communicated earlier, these RWAs are playing with fire, which may harm everyone around, including their own members. One of such RWA’s high-handedness came to our knowledge through some activists. This RWA is trying to protect its encroachment of government land in the name of housing boundaries, leading to a mess on the main Mehrauli-Mahipalpur road. This is clearly done for car parking purposes for its members. The fact is that said area needs to be kept green as per the original plan submitted to the courts. However, this area was converted into tarmacked parking. This illegal act of collective citizens can’t be regularized at the cost of the general public.

This RWA has been getting funds from Delhi’s Park and Garden Society for the maintenance of its parks for decades. This RWA has two parts one part comprises 22426 Sqms of 20 nos. parks areas and 2428.30 Sqms of planters, while the other part has 8942.23 Sqms of 13 Nos. of parks and 1122.10 Sqms of planters. RWA in this scheme is supposed to also contribute their money apart from government funds for the purpose. Previously it was supposed to be 50% max, which was reduced to 10% a few years ago. But the activist found one of the major parks missing on the ground while this RWA is enjoying full government funds, deliberately submitting wrong affidavits for many years. This act of embezzlement of public/government funds is illegal and needs to be investigated and reported to the police’s economic offense wing. All the accounts of this RWA need to go through forensic audits for their % contribution as well as gardener employees, etc. It’s very unfortunate that the greed of a few residents may land everyone in the RWA to pay without their fault. The activist has also raised a complaint with the authorities on the said issue along with the status of planters. Missing planters are going to be a big problem for all its members. A better sense should prevail to the office bearers of this RWA, and they should consider restoring their green areas on their own and admit their mistakes, and return the government funds that were misused. RWAs should avoid such adventurism at the cost of GREEN AREAS. People should remember the story of NOIDA’s Twin Towers on the GREEN BELT.
