RWA Says No to Fire Crackers During Diwali

Neeta Dogra Reacts: No Crackers for Diwali. Yes. But Why Burn Effigy of Ravana During Dusshera?

Just before Diwali, the RWA informed residents that there was a complete ban on the bursting of fire crackers in the NCR. The existing air pollution requires and demands that we have to stick to our resolve not to use/burst fire-crackers during Diwali since pollution is already at poor levels the implementation of Stage 1 under GRAP was already in place.

In the above circumstances, we residents ought to take a pledge to not use fire-crackers during Diwali celebrations, and request our children, grand-children and domestic helpers to say No to Crackers in view of the worsening air quality in the region.

We once more request residents to celebrate Diwali in an environment-friendly manner to help keep the air around us clean and live healthier lives. Adverse air quality especially affects our little ones and the elderly in a big way.

Reacting to this Keshav Chopra posted: “I totally agree and let’s ourselves pledge to follow this. Also explain to our staff and the Oil India staff quarters’ children. Request to RWA members to hold some gentle conversations with staff quarter adults /children to follow suit.”

However, Neeta Dogra responded: “No crackers for Diwali. Yes. But why burn effigy of Ravana during Dusshera? Can we look into more environment friendly ways of Dusshera celebrations.”

Another resident agreed with her and said, “Next time it should be done with each equal measure. It will be so wonderful to see the festival of lights being celebrated with only lights and social engagements. Let’s pledge that on Dushhera we try and burn pride and lack of mutual respect, not effigies. Equally important is enforcement by the designated residents’ representatives (welfare association).”
