RWA & Club Executive Committee Members Lost a Great Opportunity to Show Leadership Qualities at the AGM

Due to Executive Incompetency SP Bagla Was Dragged to the Podium to Chair the GB

President DD Mishra was hospitalised and could not attend either the RWA or Club AGMs. This was a great opportunity for the management committee members of both the institutions to take the initiative and address the general body and prove their leadership qualities.

Unfortunately, none of them came forward to address the general body and answer questions. Instead, they dragged 90-year-old SP Bagla to the podium to take charge, which he did.

In both the AGMs, there were only 15 to 20 members present and all others were either spouses or executive committee members. The RWA AGM was a tame affair. Mr Bhasker (SDF) wondered why so few members were present. He said that we all should play a role in the development of the Sector. At the end of the meeting Mr Bagla said that it was one the most peaceful meetings he had seen in the Sector. (Also read on page 7… Three important snippets of the RWA AGM held on 28-May from Sudipta Roy)

At the Club AGM, in the absence of the President, the non-resident Vice President Jyoti Kachroo was supposed to preside but fearing an onslaught of difficult questions from the house, he requested Bagla Saheb to take over. This was not acceptable to some members (Sanjeev Sareen, Jagpat Jain and Sudipta Roy in particular) and they raised their voice against the decision which they said was against the Club Constitution. A high-pitched verbal tu tu mein mein continued but Bagla Saheb kept taking the onslaught and quietly listened to them. Finally, when the voices died down, he began the meeting.

Some members raised a lot of pertinent questions. Mr Bagla kept noting them to answer them later, but the committee members opened the adjoining hall for lunch at 1.15 pm and a large chunk of members and their spouses rushed to the hall to take their plates. All this created so much noise that one could hardly hear what was going on in the meeting. The meeting was adjourned without answering any question. Some members said that opening the lunch early was a smart move to skirt the tricky questions.

The only decision taken was that the Club will henceforth call for a midterm general body meeting as well.
