The much-awaited recarpeting in the colony finally got underway this month. Because of budget constraints, approval was only given for a limited set of roads in N block (four stretches between N 18 and 93) and S block (five stretches, dispersed). The order was passed on 4th October 2023 and the action commenced after a year. N block is seeing this effort after a decade. While there is gratitude for the initiative, residents are upset about two things. Firstly, only part of the roads has been covered and E block is left out. Secondly, the MCD is simply over carpeting the roads instead of removing the earlier surface first. This will lead to even more water flooding in the adjacent homes during the rainy season, a problem that is already quite acute. The Managing Committee has already sent a request in June 2024 to cover additional areas after a meeting in the colony with Krishan Jakhar, area councillor. However, by the look of press reports that talk about MCD being out of funds for road repairs, this might well be a long wait. The service lanes adjoining outer ring road, and the road from August Kranti Marg going toward N 15, come under the jurisdiction of PWD and action might be initiated there faster.
