Keep the greens alive and kicking
After a very severe summer with mercury rising over 50°, an extended monsoon has greatly provided succor to the sweltering heat as also the vulnerable greens. A walk through the Central Park, one mid-September morning. revealed that a large number of big trees had withered away. A random count showed that around 15 trees had decayed and were rotting.
A request was made immediately to the CEO Noida Authority, via Twitter, to have these trees removed and fresh one’s planted in lieu. Within hours of the initial tweet of 15th Sep, Noida Authority (NA) responded saying “We have forwarded your issue to the concerned Department. We will get back to you shortly.”
On 25 September, got message from NA stating: “Horticulture Department’s concerned wing would undertake removal of trees in the next 7 days.”
Current status: Horticulture Department advised; the work completion is pending.
We have a responsibility towards the environment and to our future generations for safe keeping of our oxygen breathing and rain attracting trees.
