“Long before the dawn of history, long before he could speak or even sing man danced. Moving to his own internal rhythms, the pounding of his heart, the beating of his pulse, primitive man discovered dance. It has been within us always.”
And that is what keeps the Line Dance community of the Delhi NCR called the Merry Feeters alive as they meet twice a week to dance their hearts and muscles out.
The “Retro Night” on 19 April 2024 at Vasant Vihar Club was yet another novel curation to introduce people to the form of Line Dance and invite them to participate and experience something new.
Merry Feet represents the global Line Dance Foundation in India with Ms. Monica Bhasin as its ambassador along with her team of instructors Charu, Neeru, Seema and Manpreet.
Line Dance is a special experience. Mixed age groups, starting mostly from the thirties or sometimes lower, dance together. The oldest Merry Feeter is eighty-five this year.
Technique, a repertoire of step work and terminology, a challenge to one’s reflexes and memory, line dance is not as simple as it looks.
Merry Feet currently has ten clubs named after flowers and how well they spread their fragrance!
The evening was a resounding success with enthusiastic participation by our members, who turned out in large numbers. A fun event in all, which helped build bridges and create bonds within the community through dance.
