On August 20, 2024, Capt. Raj Chopra, President of The South City 1, RWA of Gurgaon, the Governing Body, Mr Ashwani Duggal General Secretary, and Residents expressed their disappointment and frustration with the municipality’s lack of response to their long-pending grievances. Despite repeated requests, the civic body has failed to address pressing issues affecting the residents’ quality of life.
KEY ISSUES
• Poor sanitation and garbage disposal
• ‘ No Desilting of Stormwater & Sewers
• Inadequate water supply and maintenance
• ‘ Removal of encroachments by the Silokra Market and hawkers outside the Arcade
• Unrepaired roads and lack of streetlights
• Ineffective waste management and pollution control
• Undesired public transportation and buses plying within the colony which lacks proper roads
RWAs’ DEMANDS
• Regularize garbage collection and ensure proper sanitation
• Provide 24/7 water supply and fix leakages
• Repair and maintain roads, footpaths, and streetlights
• Implement effective waste management and pollution control measures
• ‘ 38 people are deployed from MCG for South City 1 cleaning but no one comes. However, they are drawing salaries without doing work. Accountability of the concerned officer is to be taken into account as this is not acceptable.
More than fifty residents with Banners and Placards visited the MCG office. SCRWA has called for a meeting with the Senior MCG officials to discuss these issues and demand prompt action. If the demands are not met, the RWAs will be forced to explore other options, including protests and legal action.
“We are not just complaining; we are willing to work with the municipality to find solutions. But, the civic body must acknowledge our concerns and take concrete steps to address them. We will not back down until our demands are met.”, said Capt Raj Chopra,
Mr Manoj Yadav, CE, MCG and Dr. Subhita Dhaka met the residents and assured swift action. In the evening, Dr Subhita visited the colony along with officials and directed the officials to tackle issues like sanitation, potholes and sewage overflow immediately.
As the saying goes, “ Where there is a will, there is a way “, and since we have a ray of hope, let us not despair.
