Residents Of Blocks A, B, C And D Face Frequent Sewage Blockages & Drinking Water Contamination Issues

Residents of New Friends Colony’s Blocks A, B, C, and D are facing significant health and sanitation challenges due to frequent sewage blockages and drinking water contamination. The existing sewage and drinking water pipelines in these areas are over 50 years old, leading to frequent obstructions and overflows that adversely affect local amenities, notably Sheesham Park in D Block NFC.

The ageing infrastructure is a primary contributor to these issues, as deteriorated pipelines are more susceptible to leaks and blockages. Recognizing the critical need for infrastructure renewal, the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has initiated several projects aimed at replacing old pipelines across the city. For instance, the DJB recently approved projects to provide free sewer connections and replace old pipelines in various localities, as part of efforts to clean the Yamuna and improve sewerage management.

In the neighboring Maharani Bagh area, residents have reported receiving foul-smelling water suspected to be contaminated with sewage, leading to health issues among the populace. Most of the blocks have been affected, prompting the DJB to initiate investigations into the source of contamination.

Given the severity of the situation in these neighborhoods, it is imperative for the concerned departments to develop an action plan that includes:

– Comprehensive Survey: Conducting a detailed assessment to identify specific areas where pipeline replacements are most urgently needed.

– Infrastructure Replacement: Prioritizing the replacement of the ageing sewage and drinking water pipelines to prevent future blockages and contamination.

– Deployment of Super Sucker Machines: Utilizing advanced equipment to clear existing blockages and ensure the smooth functioning of the sewage system during the transition period.

Addressing these issues promptly is crucial to safeguard the health and well-being of residents and to maintain the environmental integrity of New Friends Colony and Maharani Bagh.
