Gince 1990 the park at Sehgal market number 2 GK2 has always been taken care of by a few residents who live around the park including Mr KL Nijhawan, Mr GL Angra, Mr Vikas Suri, and I continue to carry this momentum forward. This would not have been possible but for the voluntary monetary contributions made by the residents for the upkeep of the park, including the gardener`s salary and procurement of the necessary tools, seeds, saplings, manure etc. Routine maintenance issues related to upkeep of the park equipment and maintenance of the walking track that keep arising from time to time need regular attention.
Very often, saplings and plants are stolen calling for heightened vigil over the park for which the walkers in the park lend a helping hand. The Authorities have all but washed their hands of the park with the last significant activity of construction of the park boundary wall and fencing having been done years back. While acute manpower shortage precludes MCD from any active involvement in the maintenance of the park, it supports the residents` efforts in this regard to the best of its capabilities. As an example, the ex-Municipal Councillor, Mr Badhana, graciously arranged for hose pipes and a gardener for the park through his own resources. We recently got the broken swings at the park fixed by incurring an expense of Rs.24 K through voluntary contributions.
Our MLA Mr Saurabh Bhardwaj took interest in our park and got an open gym and a gazebo constructed in the park. Additionally, he also supported the creation of a play area inside the park for use by toddlers. The residents complimented this effort by creating a beautiful sitting area near the gazebo through personal contributions.
My wife Seema meticulously maintains the financial records for the contributions and expenses pertaining to the park. I recently approached the junior engineer civil in the MCD office for repair of the gym equipment and the boundary wall at the park. Even though the budgetary allocations were made for this purpose, the work on these activities is yet to begin. We hope the Authorities intensify their efforts to work with the residents to pull the park out of its current state of neglect.
