Residents Come Together To Aravali Bachao

On 4-5 February, the Eco group Wellington organized a photo exhibition adjacent to the Nice store. With beautiful images and descriptive text about the origin and beauty of Aravalis, this exhibition was arranged by Anu and Neelam Ahluwalia, who are active members of that group. Members from the Aravalis Bachao team talked to the residents and apprised them about what they could do to help. They stated that they are engaged with the government, trying to make them see their point of view and make them rethink the development policy around the Aravalis.

Aravalis are our natural infrastructure, recharging our groundwater holding back the sands of the deserts, providing homes to wild animals, cleaning the air moderating the climate. Orange ‘badarpur’ and is mined there. Aravalis are our vital’ Recharge zone’ for this region”. Its crystalline rocks, riddled with joints and fractures, allow rainwater to enter the earth to become priceless ‘fossil water ‘.This is how our aquifers are replenished, and our cities would not be able to survive without them.

The eco group was started nearly five years ago with an urgent need for waste management. A lot has been achieved since. The same group has started the ‘Aravalis Bachao’ project. They are also working to make Wellington a zero-plastic society.
