Every year after a major festival like Diwali, Ganesh Chaturthi and Chhath Puja, idols of deities, pictures of our Gods and Goddesses, religious books and scriptures are seen discarded around trees most disdainfully. I wonder how people could be so callous as to throw away their revered deities so disrespectfully. Is our reverence for our Gods meant only for the day of the festival?
My earnest request to my friends is to please stop this act of sheer disrespect to those we worship all year round for their blessing. Instead, perhaps we can hand over old idols, pictures and religious books to some nearby temple for safe and honorable disposal. Flowers and garlands can be handed over to an NGO for making incense. Nothing is wasted as nature goes back to nature.
Please take a look at this peepal tree. It is not an isolated instance. One can see several idols lying around Peepal trees not just all over in Delhi but in so many other cities as well.
When will we change?
