2 Stray Dogs Electrocuted In M Block Market!
Walking along with my daughters every evening is a ritual all three of us look forward to. It gives us an opportunity to bond, chatting uninterrupted and without any diversion like phone, social media, or even a call from their mother to study! But increasingly, I’ve found myself reminded of the song of yesteryears, extremely popular at the time. But I doubt even the lyricist wouldn’t have thought how relevant it is in today’s time.
It goes like “ae bhai zara dekh ke chalo (when walking in delhi), aage hi nahi (potholes) peechhe bhi (stray dogs ready to attack the unsuspecting), daayein hi nahi (cars honking, waiting to drive all over you), baayen bhi (construction material, parked cars, motorcycles zipping) upar hi nahi (wires dangling thanks to cable operators, internet service providers, et al!), neeche bhi (dog poop, cow dung and what have you)”!
Really, it’s atrocious how a pedestrian is made to struggle in the supposedly high-class colony of the capital of the country. Recently, a resident of the colony, Ms Suman Anand, fell into a pothole as she was looking up, trying to avoid the wires hanging carelessly. Needless to say, she was badly hurt not only physically, but also endured psychological trauma. It is something that can happen to any of us, and indeed does happen to many of us.
The attitude of authorities is “ki farak painda”. They are least bothered to do anything in spite of repeated requests and reminders. But what is truly disheartening is also the attitude of fellow citizens, who drive callously, honk incessantly, who let construction waste lie carelessly on the road, who let their pets poop anywhere without caring to pick it up, and who park their vehicles on the road in spite of the empty driveways.
Recently, an extremely unfortunate incident happened when two stray dogs were electrocuted at the corner of M-block market, near Wagh Bakri. It was due to leakage of current from one of the poles that flowed into the water accumulated due to rains. This spot has repeatedly been flagged to the authorities, as there is perpetually overflowing sewage line, but alas, no action has been taken. It could just as easily have been a pedestrian taking a stroll, or the auto drivers who are usually standing there, but then a life is a life. It’s hard to imagine a supposedly up-market colony like ours could have an incident like this, which could and should have been prevented.
But then, I tell my daughters about another famous song “ae dil hai mushkil jeena yahaan, yeh hai GK2, up-class colony of capital city, yeh hai dilli meri jaan (though no longer meri shaan)”! and we keep
