Republic Day Was Celebrated With Fervour

The RWCS organised Republic Day with a spirit of deep patriotism. The lawn was decorated with balloons and flowers in the tricolor. A diya was lit in memory of brave hearts and freedom
heroes who had laid down their lives to protect the motherland, and a picture of Bharat Mata was also garlanded. The flag was unfurled by RWCS President Govind Sharma, and the national anthem “Jana Gana Mana”  was sung.

Mr Govind Sharma talked about how we should think about the welfare of the whole sector and not individual ones. He stressed that as a sector; we should not be divided by blocks and should live together as one. He requested that the doubling of functions to celebrate festivals be stopped. He asked the residents to not have block-wise Holika Dahan as it damages roads.

He also spoke about the renovation of Gangotri Hall, stressing how the funds for it were raised through friends. He said that RWCS is acting rapidly on residents’ complaints that are raised in WhatsApp groups. He cited problems with pruning peepal trees because the horticulture department refuses to do so for religious reasons. The electricity department has been requested to audit the state of transformers so that they can be repaired or replaced, which will lead to fewer breakdowns.

Govind Sharma said that for the development of the sector, the RWCS should be strong as an organisation and financially too. Savita Saxena said that it was the duty of the RWCS members to convince non-members to join and become members.

Along with others, Preeti Ganguly organised races for children and residents. The races were a flat race for children 6–8 years, a marble and spoon race for children 9–14 years, a Matki-Phod race for ladies, a musical chairs race, a walking race for men, as well as a tug-of-war. These brought a lot of cheer to all present.

Elsewhere in the sector, the Brahma-kumaris Ashram as well as the Kalibari Mandir also unfurled the tricolour on Republic Day. Only a few residents put up the National Flag on their gates, which is a sharp contrast to Independence Day when the flag was distributed to all houses as part of the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign.
