We hope everyone enjoyed the feeling of freedom this Republic Day. We certainly did so at our Club, thanks to the well-organized event and the lovely sunshine.
The function started at around 11 am with an address by our President Mr. Rajesh Chopra, welcoming the Chief Guest Brig. (Retd) Vinod Khanna. He spoke about Brig. Khanna’s 34-year-old illustrious military career, including an engagement in the 1965 Indo Pak war, after which he joined the corporate world. He also served our Society as a Managing Committee member from 2016 to 2019. We also learnt that he is a keen tennis and squash player.
Brig. Khanna’s appreciated the dedication and commitment of the Society staff and was all praise for our colony which was, in his words, neighbour’s envy and owner’s pride. He also explained how the army principle of “leave no man behind” was derived from the Indian Constitution and demonstrated an inclusivity and compassion. He encouraged the same principle (of compassionate collaboration) to be implemented in our colony and the wider society.
Col. (Retd) Avneet Bedi, our current Managing Committee member, gave a vote of thanks, followed by a rendition of patriotic songs by Rekha, Samuel and Shiva. Seventy odd residents graced the occasion and enjoyed the sumptuous spread of sandwiches, pakoras, samosas, matra kulcha and gulab jamun, with hot and cold beverages.
We do hope to see bigger crowds of residents in future celebrations.
