Saraswati Puja also known as Vasant Panchami in various states and regions throughout the country is celebrated to commemorate the beginning of the preparation of the spring season; whereas, the Republic Day honours the day wherein the Constitution of India came into effect officially in 1950.
The Republic Day and Saraswati Puja were celebrated in unison in Alok Vihar-1 wherein the both the festivals happened to fall on the same auspicious day this year, 26 January. The day commenced by worshipping the goddess of knowledge, music and learning, Goddess Saraswati which was followed by the flag hoisting to mark the 74th Republic Day of India. The unfurling of tricolour was combined with the singing of the national anthem succeeding which, there was a whole array of cultural programmes performed by the children of the society. There were also racing competitions for kids of various ages.

Keeping through the traditions of the society, an idol of the goddess was established and worshipped with great vigour. The residents, ladies dressed in yellow, also indulged in antarakshi competition at the end of the evening, summing up the eventful day perfectly.
