Remembering Gandhi Bapu- The Craftsperson’s Vision

Sunaina Suneja, a resident of B4 block is a multifaceted personality. A French-speaking designer, environmental enthusiast, nature lover, a sensitive person who works for the society in her own unique way. She is a khadi lover and has held many exhibitions on Khadi in the past. A textile expert she runs her own boutique and remains in close touch with creative craftspeople such as the women of villages in Punjab whom she inspired to earn their living through phulkari embroidery.

Sunaina recently held an exhibition on the theme- Bapu- The craftsperson’s vision at Alliance Francaise de Delhi, Lodi Estate. The exhibition consisted of craft works on the life and philosophy of Gandhi wherein she has included many craftspersons from different states to showcase their work on either fabric or canvas to depict Gandhi ji ‘ s life and message, his interactions with the villagers etc. Artists from Bengal, Orissa, Bihar and Gujrat have made paintings on canvas and paper and fabrics like Khadi and silk in their own inimitable style- Madhubani, patchitra, Kantha , Warli art (Maharashtra) . They all have shown their respect for the father of the nation in their beautiful paintings which were really a treat to an Artist’s soul. The exhibition was from 5-15 th Oct and was a grand success. The best part was that along with academics and artists, philosophers, lecturers and business people, young people showed a keen interest in knowing Gandhi ji.

Sunaina is extremely happy with the turnout and success of her exhibition as it has served its purpose by creating interest in young minds about the Gandhian philosophy which is actually the need of the hour in these turbulent times of war, intolerance and hatred in on the society,

May the Gandhian values of tolerance, peace, satya and ahimsa prevail in our society.
