Over the past few days, there has been a lot of talk around various groups in the colony relating to ‘dogs, dog-bites, damage to cars by the dogs, etc.’ Residents also highlighted these in view of reports in the newspaper of a minor boy being severely injured by a ‘pitbull’ and another once being injured and bitten by a pet-dog in an elevator.
The newspapers on 12.09.2022 reported that ‘The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has asked all residents who are pet-owners to have their respective pets registered in view of the rising incidents of dog-bites in the Delhi NCR Region, and also warned the residents that strict action can be taken for non-compliance of the said norm. A research on the subject revealed that the ‘Delhi Municipal Corporation Act (reference to Section 399 thereof)’ mandates registration of pet-dogs with the civic body. But it seems that residents have remained reluctant to come forward and have their respective pets registered. An article in the newspaper (dated 12.09.2022) stated that MCD also has the power to detain a unregistered pet-dog found in a public place, to be detained for non-adherence of the mandatory rule. That being so, all readers/residents are requested to kindly act accordingly.
