The massive rain in July created havoc in the colony as it was flooded with water completely destroying more than 50 basements incurring a heavy loss for residents mostly lawyers who lost all their important documents. Residents lost their furniture and other household items which were completely submerged.
Many blamed it on MCD for not desilting drains but one of the root causes of it was a barrage which was constructed in the bara nallah near Sarai Kale Khan which made the rainwater reverse and enter back into colonies in the vicinity of the nallah. The other cause was the covered nallah not being maintained properly for over eight years as only the open areas were desilted before June this year.
Taking this into consideration, some lawyers like Sisodia, advocate, Siddarth Luthra, senior advocate, went to the HighCourt and NGT, which later ordered the Chief Secretory of Delhi to explain the possible reasons for flooding.
This led MCD getting into full swing with an army of super suckers and JCB in the open area and ramps. Each culvert and bell cap is being opened around the nallah and the ramps have been cleaned to allow desilting of nallah from inside. Both sides, open drains are being desilted with the help of JCB and all kinds of obstruction are being removed to let water flow freely. Hopefully, this will save our colony from such disasters in future.
