This month at the SCF was filled with meaningful engagement and joyful celebrations. We hosted two major events that brought our community closer together.
1. Health Talk in Commemoration of World Cancer Day
Did you know that in India, one in nine individuals is likely to develop cancer in their lifetime? However, with the right knowledge and preventive measures, many cancers can be avoided or detected early, significantly improving outcomes.
World Cancer Day, observed annually on February 4th, was established in 2000 during the World Summit Against Cancer for the New Millennium in Paris. This initiative raises awareness, promotes research, and unites the global community in the fight against cancer. In alignment with this global effort, SCF hosted an insightful Health Talk on February 15th, 2025, focusing on cancer awareness, early detection, and prevention.
Dr. Kanika Batra Modi from Max Healthcare led the session with enthusiasm, making it a truly engaging experience. Many members participated actively, eager to learn about the importance of early screenings and lifestyle changes that can reduce cancer risks. As the saying goes, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” By staying informed and proactive, we can take small steps toward a healthier future and work together to combat cancer. Let’s continue spreading awareness—because “knowledge shared is knowledge multiplied.”
2. Celebrating Our February Birthday Stars
Birthdays are special, and at SCF, they are a time of joy, laughter, and togetherness! As the saying goes, “Birthdays are nature’s way of telling us to eat more cake!” On February 27th, we gathered at the SCF Lawn to celebrate our wonderful members born in this month of friendship: Suresh Chander Tarneja, Sushil Bagga, Ashit Nangia, Sarjivan Singh Manhas, Veena Khanna, and Ranjana Taneja.
The event began with a warm welcome by SCF Chairperson Harjit Kaur Bawa, who extended heartfelt wishes to our birthday seniors and super seniors. The charming host, Kanchan Anand, added a poetic touch by reciting a lovely poem in honor of our esteemed members.
The chairperson then honored Suresh Chander Tarneja with a souvenir and a birthday card as a token of love from the SCF family. Veena Khanna, ex-president of DCWA, was also presented with a beautiful birthday card, reflecting the deep warmth and affection of our community. Ranjana Taneja received heartfelt birthday wishes, while Sarjiwan Manhas was honored with a special card presented by Vijay Kumar, SCF Member & President of RWA A Block.
The celebration was further enriched with soulful poetry and melodies by Ajay Kumar and Pawan Talwar, while H.P. Khanna shared a valuable home remedy—reminding us all that health is wealth! Suvir Sharma took us on a literary journey with a Shakespearean poem, adding a touch of classic wisdom to the evening. Vijay Kumar, SCF member and president, conveyed warm birthday wishes, making the occasion even more delightful.
A highlight of the event was the presence of special guest Poonam Mehra, daughter of Veena Khanna. Her participation added warmth to the gathering, and her generous contribution to the SCF forum was truly appreciated—proving once again that kindness always comes full circle.
No birthday celebration is complete without a grand cake-cutting ceremony, followed by a feast of delicious North Indian cuisine that leaves everyone feeling satisfied and happy.
The evening concluded with laughter, heartfelt conversations, and the joy of togetherness—because happiness truly multiplies when shared!
We look forward to many more wonderful celebrations ahead!
