According to the Hindu Panchang, come ‘Phalgun Maas’, mustard fields sway in bloom and blossoms of a million hues fill the gardens. When the senses soak in the heady fragrance of these myriad blossoms and the full moon shines upon us earthly souls, you know it is time for the festival of colours Holi.
The WW/ CW RWA celebrated Holi on the 24th and 25th of March 2024 in Central Park, Malibu Towne.
The celebrations sparked off with Holika Dahan on Holi eve with ex-MCG Councillor
Kuldeep Yadav as the chief guest and the RWA President- Vijay Nath along with the residents of WW/CW lit up the Holika amidst traditional fervour.
The next morning, Central Park transformed itself into a multi-coloured canvas bringing alive the true spirit of the festival. Sharing of sweets, singing and dancing under the improvised ‘sprinkler showers’ and a general ‘masti’ ostensibly fuelled by a supply of ‘bhang ke pakore’, courtesy Mr Sandeep Kedia. An equally sumptuous lunch of ‘Kadhi chawal’ was hosted by the RWA team and the residents were seen revelling in the spirit of Holi for the better part of the day.
Some Holi trivia
While we all know the mythological story of Prahlad and Holika associated with Holi, it would interest us to know that Holi also finds mention in Alberuni’s Safarnama where it transcends the borders of caste and creed and emerges as a celebration of brotherhood.
Akbar, the Great, loved to swim in a pool of colours on Holi, while Jehangir showered colour on his beloved NurJahan. Bahadur Shah Zafar smeared ‘abeer- gulaal’ on his forehead and also penned down poetry on this subject. His compositions resonate in the hearts of the Dilliwallahs to date!
