Monsoons are upon us. And so are the water woes caused by long rainy spells. Malibu has been at the receiving end of the water-logging issues for several years now and the situation is compounded by the growing construction in and around the colony. All the kaccha lands that acted as sponges are getting concretized, making the water looking for an escape route come flooding into the colony.
To deal with the situation, two years ago, a ramp was constructed at the Malibu Market entry point. The idea was to prevent the water flowing in from South City-2 and adjoining areas from entering our colony which is on a low-lying stretch as compared to these areas. After the success of the ramp experiment, another one was constructed in July, at the AVA Court Gate. The efficacy of the ramp got tested soon enough. The city witnessed another intense rainy spell but this time around, thanks to the newly built ramp, the water from South City-2 couldn’t find a way inside the township.
Efforts are now on to channel the rainwater from the entire township towards the pond behind UW Gardens-2. As a first step, pipes are being laid at the Sohna Road entry point stretch to connect it with the pond through the Jharsa Bandh.
With these measures, Malibu’s water-logging issues would soon be history. Also, all the rainwater gets guided to its right destination and would recharge an almost dead pond that will soon be bustling with life.
A little bit of inconvenience today shall pave the way for a comfortable tomorrow.
