It was a grand evening of love, laughter, and interaction on Wednesday, 19 February, when veterans of Ram Vihar gathered with their spouses and single ladies at Machaan, AVI in Sector 29. This annual social gathering was a highly anticipated event. The month of February offers favourable weather, making it an ideal time for such social entertainments. During winters, especially, senior citizens tend to prefer staying indoors, and the pleasant spring season is perfect for everyone to come out, catch up with friends, and feel bright and active.
The response was good, with a sizable crowd of around 40-45 gathering at the assigned time of 7:30 pm. Unfortunately, some Ram Vihar residents were out of station, while others had medical issues that prevented them from attending. Their absence was deeply felt, and we missed their company.
Brigadier Vijay Atray extended a warm welcome and expertly coordinated the entire event. The highlight of the evening was the fun games, including Malamaal (a new version of tambola) and a paper game that tested one’s IQ. Colonel Kochar and Ritu Gupta took charge of these two games, respectively. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed participating and engaging with lots of enthusiasm and excitement. General Bahl and Brigadier Om Prakash entertained us with old but evergreen Bollywood numbers. Their melodious voices and selection of songs/gazals were appreciated by all. General Kulkarni narrated an interesting anecdote that was both interesting and hilarious.
We were treated to lip-smacking snacks, followed by delicious, piping-hot soup. After the prize distribution, a sumptuous dinner was served. The Continental cuisine, with its rich flavours and high-quality ingredients, offered something for every palate, ensuring a memorable dining experience. Strawberry and vanilla ice cream was everyone’s preferred choice. The entire programme was meticulously planned and executed. Everyone relished the opportunity to chat and mingle with friends. Later, photographs were taken, although it was a bit of a delayed reaction, as many had already departed. We eagerly look forward to more get-togethers like this, as they provide us with a chance to mingle and chat with others.
