On Friday, 13 January, a large number of Ram Vihar residents got together to celebrate Lohri, the harvest festival of North Indian Punjabis. A holy priest from Sec 30 was invited and asked to perform the Puja. At sharp 7.00 pm Puja was done and thereafter bonfire was lit. All performed the rituals by going all around the fire and praying for the well being and prosperity of their loved ones. Sweets made of til like rabri and gajak, popcorns and pea nuts were put into the fire and later exchanged with each other., Ladoos from the Society were distributed to all, Chairs in a circular manner were put all around the bonfire. Everyone had a comfortable and cosy time meeting and greeting each other “Happy Lohri’’ and also “Belated Happy New Year” for some.
It was the first Lohri festival of the newly wedded couple Bikramjit Singh and Richa, son and daughter- in- law of Col and Mrs JBS Rekhi (D -314). The couple danced to the tune of dhol and others also got motivated and gave them company.
A Chinese food stall was put up along with saag and maki ki roti. The starters and main course were much appreciated and liked by all.
We hope and pray that we continue celebrating other festivals too as one big family with the same love, gaiety and enthusiasm.
