Rahul started playing squash at the age of nine at Vasant Vihar Club. He received coaching from the club coach Gautam Sood. Under his guidance, Rahul went on to represent his school, Delhi Public School, Vasant Kunj at inter school events before being selected as part of the Delhi junior state team at the nationals in the year 2015.While he was undergoing professional training, he was offered a seat as a squash athlete to join St Stephens College for his bachelor’s degree in 2017.

Building on participating in national level inter university events representing his college, Rahul started coaching juniors from 2019 onwards and completed the World Squash Federation Level 2 coaching course. From 2020 to 2022, Rahul served as the squash coach at Shiv Nadar University, Delhi NCR campus where he had the honor of working with Indian athletes who had represented India at various international tournaments. Post this work experience, Rahul spent a year in Melbourne, Australia pursuing his master’s degree in sport management to hone his skills and to prepare for working in the sports industry.

In June this year, Rahul will start his new role as the National Coach at Singapore Squash Rackets Association collaborating with juniors and building on his experience.

Rahul is grateful to his coach Gautam Sood from whom he received rigorous training. “Performing exercises and playing matches with my coach for over the last 10 years, I honed my skills as a player and learnt the finer point of the game for which I shall always remain indebted to my mentor, “says Rahul.

“I am also lucky to be a part of the supportive Vasant Vihar Club squash community which has always pushed me to achieve greater heights including my mentor and friend Harjinder Singh. Also, I would like to acknowledge the club sports chairperson, Rajeev Gujral sir, and the entire club committee who have ensured access to a great squash facility as well as the sports environment in our club over the years. I am excited to develop my knowledge of the game in my new role and take the name of Vasant Vihar Club and our country, India to greater heights,” says Rahul.

We wish you, Rahul, success in your new role.
