As customary for the last several years DLF’s oldest welfare association QERWA celebrated Independence Day this year too with full honour and enthusiasm at the front lawn of DLF-1 Community Centre.
Baljeet Rathee, President QERWA, introduced the chief guest and welcomed the gathering. Rama Rani Rathee also addressed and raised the ‘josh’ by involving one and all in chanting ‘Saare Jahna Se Achcha’ loudly.
The chief guest Major General (Retd.) Ramesh Kakar unfurled the national flag and gave an inspiring speech narrating the values learnt from the armed forces. He recalled the sacrifices made by several freedom fighters including the unsung heroes in getting us freedom. He narrated an incident from his visit to Cellular Jail, Andaman Nicobar, wherein by just a prompt from one of the visitors one and all got charged up echoing patriotic sloganeering.
There was a cultural show with songs and dance performances by lovely children from Apna School and the Shakti girls of NGO ‘Sarvam Shakti’. The programme concluded with the ‘Vote of Thanks’ by Dhruv Bansal on behalf of Jt. General Secretary of the QERWA. The programme was well attended by a large number of residents depicting true nationalism. Tea with refreshments was served at the end.
