Environmental Pollution, due to plastic, is a frequently discussed topic. Our living style and casual approach have a great effect on its spread. Water, air, and land all are undergoing drastic changes due to this. The future looks dismal and bleak. Everyone is looking for some miracle to happen. But how can that happen?
Unless we take major steps to reduce plastic pollution from production to consumption, more plastic will be everywhere. This increase will pose a serious threat to the health of all ecosystems which in the long run affects the economy. It’s no secret that plastic is terrible for the environment.
Everybody seems to agree that we’ve got to bell the cat. Discussions are happening in social circles. Campaigns are being run against the use of plastic. Requests are being made to eradicate plastics from our life and spread awareness. Countless solutions have been offered like improving collection services, building better recycling facilities, and stopping single-use plastics/packaging.
But where is this mammoth amount of plastic coming from? Daily life examples are the reckless tossing of empty plastic bottles used for drinking water & other beverages all around. Bottles are seen lying scattered all over parks, roads, back lanes, outside & inside dustbins.
So, what is the solution? It needs to be nipped in the bud. Calls for action at both individual and collective levels. We can start by simply avoiding the use of plastic in the form of bottled beverages, straws, disposable plates, spoons, and glasses. Carrying water bottle from home. If bought, then reuse/dispose of them properly.
Carrying reusable shopping bags made out of paper or cloth will help in reducing polythene bags to a great extent. There are NGOs actively engaged in stitching reusable bags from waste like old newspapers, double bed sheets, and unwanted clothes or fabric. Let us reach out to them to bring more cloth bags into the system. I am connected with one such organisation that would gladly help.
It is high time we move together to fight this evil. Our role is a major one in the effort to eradicate this formidable enemy. Let us all join hands and try to put the Genie back into the Bottle by ‘Going Green’.
