In the last few weeks Hauz Khas Ward has experienced pruning at an unprecedented rate by MCD. Thanks to our highly motivated team of Somnath Bharti ji (MLA) & Kamal Bhardwaj ji
(Councilor). Their good offices assured one hydraulic lift be assigned from Zone to our ward for a limited period.
For many years pruning was done sporadically and scantily. Large areas were neglected for many years. Our area stretches from Masjid Moth (NDSE II) to HK Police Colony and between August Karanti Marg and Aurobindo Marg.
Initially, only urgent (permissible) light pruning was done to clear roads of overhanging branches up to 10 feet high and some that affected buildings. Most RWAs understood the need to share this opportunity for benefit of entire ward and wait for the second round for more detailed pruning. However, excessive time got spent in some areas thereby leaving very little time for others that may have got neglected.
Lack of timely pruning has lead to many branches growing beyond the purview of light pruning. These now require special permission for heavy pruning and head-back to check height. Individuals and RWAs will need to follow a different procedure for this.
More than 350 trees have been pruned so far and the work continues. RWAs and Samaritans of various areas guided the pruning team. All cuttings were immediately or eventually removed depending on availability of truck.
BSES is responsible for pruning of trees interfering with street-lights & electric wires. However, they need to be informed.
