Samvada has become our monthly part of the reading activity, and it is amazing to read the comments and views of our residents. For our January issue of Samvada, the residents appreciated and expressed their emotions towards the articles published in it. I feel so happy that residents do not only read our magazine but also give feedback and valuable suggestions.
One of our residents, Uma Ananad (F 69 sector 39) especially called me and talked about how much she admired the article written by Rashmi Gangwar, “What Separates Youth From Old Age”. She expressed hope that this article would inspire the new generation to understand the sentiments of elders and learn from their experiences. As the new generation needs to accept the older one, it should be the other way also where older people should also understand and accommodate the youth.
Many other residents also appreciated this article kudos to the writer! Though things have improved a lot now there was a time when the generation gap had reached its highest during
globalization. Agreed that the new generation has more knowledge at a younger stage than the older generation at the same age; due to easy access to various digital platforms. But it does not mean that we should disrespect our elders, they have more real-time experience as compared to young people. The writer also mentioned a beautiful line in her last paragraph- “Seniors possess a wealth of knowledge which young generations admire, whereas younger people can teach seniors open-mindedness, and new technologies”.
