Project Green Earth is a waste segregation and composting initiative that aims to reduce waste in Greater Kailash 2. Our goal is to raise awareness about waste management and transform Greater Kailash 2 into an eco-friendly neighborhood.
On June 4th, we launched our initiative with the support of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), Resident Welfare Association (RWA), and the Forum of Senior Citizens. We held our event at the Senior Citizens Community Hall to commemorate World Environment Day and kickstart our efforts towards a greener, cleaner, and better GK2.
The reason behind starting Project Green Earth is simple—to contribute to the environment. Each year, India alone generates 40 million tonnes of waste, of which only 8 million tonnes are recycled, while the rest is dumped into landfills. It is projected that by 2030, India’s waste generation will reach 120 million tonnes per year. The primary cause of this increase is the lack of proper waste segregation, hindering recycling efforts.
Therefore, waste segregation is a matter that demands serious attention. Project Green Earth has partnered with the NGO Itc WOW (Wellbeing Out of Waste) and will be visiting interested households door-to-door to educate them about the proper waste segregation process. We will also provide dustbins for the disposal of wet waste, which will be collected daily. All the collected wet waste will be used in the composting machine we are setting up in GK2. The resulting compost, also known as “black gold,” is one of the most nutritious substances for plants and will be made available to those interested.
