The effects of global warming are now evident, with record – breaking temperatures and heatwaves which have been prolonged over a period of time. This makes us turn to our cooling devices more, be they refrigerators, ACs, or coolers. Of late though, we have also heard of incidents of short circuits and tripping that happens with the devices, which has led to them getting spoilt. The only way of managing these is to use thermostats that prevent those sudden increase and decrease in voltage reaching the devices. Lately, though thankfully not in AOH, we have heard of incidents of ACs catching fire. This is of course a consequence of the extreme heat, both externally and also within the system. So, what we can we do to ensure this does not happen to us?
1. The most important prevention measure is regular servicing and cleaning.
2. Periodically, ensure that the vents are clean and there is no blockage.
3. If voltage is low, do not stress the AC, as it will not be effective and will add to the heating.
4. Call technicians to keep a check on how much it is getting heated – if the outdoor unit is getting overheated, they will need to bring the temperature down, using water.
5. Do not use the AC continuously. Switch it off from time to time so that the device gets time to cool down.
Keeping these small measures in mind will ensure that your ACs and other devices last longer and are more effective in combating the heat stress!
