The hardest and most exhausting part of the year for every student is the annual examinations. The pressure is doubled as more time passes. Everyone is impatient to just get over with it.
We all have struggled to get all that stuff into our head, especially when everything just seems overflowing out of the brain,at some or the other point of our lives. So, here are some ways that have helped me to build a dam and stop the overflowing river of information.
Firstly, set a timer whenever you sit down for a study session. Complete your entire syllabus before the deadline making time management significantly easier. Plan your study session. Make a check/to-do list of your tasks.
Practice, practice, practice. Solve as many questions as possible. Use previous year papers, question banks, sample question papers and worksheets. Use AI – to generate quizzes, worksheets and make difficult topics easier with elaborated explanation.
Teach a 5-year-old or a soft toy. Teaching helps you remember stuff easier as you make effort to break things down into chunks and piece them back together. Helping you to understand better and kicking rote memorization out of the house. Study a topic for 20 mins and then change your topic to a whole different one for another 20 mins. Then come back to the first topic. This helps in detailed retention as when you forget some material and review it later, you can memorize it better. This is called interleaving (spaced repetition).
Now, coming onto taking care of health. I cannot tell you how much maintaining your health during exams is important. Eating small amounts of dry fruits, seeds and fruits can make a massive impact on your brain and keeps your mood light, preventing dullness. According to research, happiness increases productivity by 12%!
Drink at least 3 litres of water every day, to prevent brain cells from shrinking. Make sleep routine and sleep on time. Even one night’s missed sleep can be a cause for accumulation of toxins in the brain, clogging and preventing cognitive functions from working properly. Taking naps or sleeping can help clear blocked neural pathways and strengthen your memory. Stretch, jump or shake every time you take a break. Exercising releases a chemical in the body and brain which promotes the growth of neurons.
Thank you so much for reading!
Hope you ace your next exam!
