I am taking the liberty of introducing Prem Kumar Tahim, an old resident of Green Park to myself and to many more who may not have known or met Mr Tahim in person.
We generally say “world is small” but I would like to say Green Park is big, where we do not meet or know our neighbours until they prove themselves to have a unique personality. Mr Prem Kumar Tahim is one such example. I have been living in Green Park since 1969-70. Premji had also come to stay in K block about the same time. Yet I got to know him personally when I saw his announcement in our newsmagazine samvad about his free give away plants, which are available on Sundays, because he needs a week’s time to propagate a plant. Greedy me decided to get as many as available.
Like me, many more got introduced to Mr Tahim. Everyone who met him, found him to be a lovable personality. He is an artist by nature with a hobby of propagating plants and sharing them with others who also love them like they own babies. When he is lonely he goes and communicates with his green babies and comes back rejuvenated.
It is this avatar which has made him so popular in Green Park. He has been receiving heart touching messages for which he is very grateful to all of them. I quote below one message which I liked the most.
“Mr Tahim is an extreme example in the society. Worthy of emulation and propagating his love for plants and his hobby is not fulfilled until he shares with others. I got a plant from him to share his joy and his plant shall now keep me and my family and visitors apprised of his nobel thought and action.”
I did not want to add anything more because it comprises the love, respect and appreciation of a transparent soul. He showed me free lemongrass plants, about 10 in number, which were kept on a table in the midst of his small neat and inviting bagiya, when I met him at his residence. Garden plant lovers are informed about the availability on a first come first serve basis. In the midst of plants I could see a small golden colour decoration piece, also a creation of Premji. He was kind enough to present me one.
So this is in short the story of Green Park green plant lover Prem Kumar Tahim who renders this welcome service to keep Green Plark green.
