The “unstoppable” noise of Band Baja Baraat across F-block, Sector-50, is the most discussed issue in the societies’ groups these days. The high decibel of the bands and then the loud bang of the patakas, which rattle the windowpanes, make it difficult to sleep at night. Noise is more than just a nuisance. It is dangerous to people’s health. Day and night, at home and at work, noise can produce very serious physical and psychological stress. None is immune to this stress. Though we seem to adjust to noise by ignoring it, the ear never closes and the body still responds sometimes with extreme tension, as to a strange sound in the night.
We received an email from a resident of Shubhkamna apartments, who referred to Samvada’s November cover story, Construction Activities and the GRAP: Compelling need for strict implementation to control air pollution. He wrote:
“I read the cover article with deep interest… very well written and true reflection of residents’ pain. Kudos! Would request you to kindly do similar research on loud music and high-pitch sound emanating from nearby banquet hall which is very irritating.
In the past NOFAA and other RWAs raised such issues many times; police complaints were also made by residents, but it goes on… I even met the banquet hall owner, his version is: the loud sound is not from their hall but made by people on the road.
Request Samvada to take up this again. You have published this topic and earlier, but nothing happens. Can something be done?”
The “noise pollution” during the auspicious dates of the wedding season is the dreaded period, ever since banquet halls have come up in Hoshiyarpur village. The loud celebration goes on past midnight. On police intervention, after a complaint, the music stops for a while but resumes.
This “helpless situation” was one of the main topics of discussion in a meeting held on 30 November with the Noida MLA, Pankaj Singh, attended by F-block, Sector 50 representatives. The attendees pointed out that they have been tolerating loud noise coming from the baraat ghars, and have requested the venue owners many times to keep the sound level within permissible limit and switch off the loudspeakers after the Noida Authority’s sanctioned time limit is over. (Read details of the meeting inside.)
However, all requests have gone wasted and noise nuisance continues.
The MLA assured action on this front. But time will tell how effective the action would be!
