On a wintry morning, when I was going for my morning walk, I saw two guards from Gate no 3 holding as if capturing a thief, a poorly clad woman who looked like a cleaner standing near C- Block park. Out of curiosity, I asked them why they were holding a poor lady like this. They answered that at midnight, she had jumped out of a running Auto Rickshaw and ran towards the C-Block Park. On seeing this they ran behind her thinking she is a thief. When she saw them running behind her, she hid under a car to save herself from being caught. They kept looking for her everywhere, especially from C-81 to C-87. After a long hide & seek, they caught her early in the morning and were waiting for her relatives to take her away. She said her in-laws stay in the government room beyond Nullah. Meanwhile her Mother-in-law and brother-in-law came and told this story. We saw bruises on her body and on enquiring she said that her husband beats her up often. Now the mother-in-law’s version: she married the son who is unable to walk properly. They have been married for 10 years. They have two daughters, 8 and 3 years old. It seems that she was not getting along so the mother-in-law decided to rent a room in Chirag Delhi and asked her to live there. The younger daughter used to live with the mother. Payal filed a police complaint against her in-laws in Moradabad where her parents live. She would not live and let live with the husband in peace. Finally one day, the husband was going to drop her off at her parents’ house to have some peace in the family. But she jumped out and has created more problems. Sometimes, the law which is in favour of the ladies’ is misinterpreted and puts innocent people in trouble.
