Political Parties Spar
Residents Suffer

Samvada News Bureau

The intensity of rivalry between different political parties has intensified over the past few years. We, as ordinary residents watch silently. There is continuous daily newspaper and media coverage about the slugfest & bickering going on every day.
There are charges of fraudulent and malicious investigations, raids by various govt agencies on rivals, allegations of tax evasion, scams and daily diatribes against each other and several court cases.
Whether it is the national politics or state politics, scene is the same everywhere.
Who is suffering the most out of this daily drama and fights? We, the ordinary residents are suffering the most. In spite of paying our taxes honestly, the citizens are not getting satisfactory civic services or security, to which they are entitled as citizens.
Just on a micro level of a colony /block, we wish to point out the various facilities and services, which have been affected the most ,over the past several years/months, in GK 1, supposed to be a posh B category colony.

  1. Civic services in general including cleaning of front & back lanes.
  2. Covering of nalla behind R & S blocks & unhindered flow of sewer water in a storm water drain. This is pending since ages. In spite of a court directive to stop the sewer water flow, nothing has happened.
  3. Pathetic condition of a few inner roads, especially in S & R Blocks.
  4. Rain water harvesting pits-A non-starter
  5. Provision of CCTVs for the safety of residents. Many sanctioned CCTV’s have been delayed.
  6. No club or a senior citizens Centre in this colony in the last sixty years.
  7. A welcome gate was proposed near B Block petrol pump-A non-starter
  8. No last mile connectivity with the inner areas of GK from nearby metro stations of Mool Chand, Kailash colony or Yusuf Sarai. The Hon’ble Delhi Court in WP© 2800/2013 had ordered two routes in GK1. No action so far. There is no bus service in this colony for more than 22 years, though there are many bus shelters.
  9. Pruning of trees, maintenance of lights, cleaning of storm water drains, provision of pedestrian crossing, traffic lights on main Hans Raj Gupta Marg are all pending.
  10. De-silting of storm water drains in the inner lanes of blocks, removal of garbage & malba, repair of roads, removal of encroachments by vendors, residents & builders etc.
The RWA’s keep on knocking at the doors of various authorities but the action is very very slow or non-existent. How long can the RWA’s or residents sustain such services at their cost and thru man power employed by them?
We strongly feel that once the elections are over, the different factions should join hands and work for the benefit of common citizens. After all, these parties are enjoying their perks at the cost of residents.
