Do you realise how much Vasant Kunj has changed over time? Grown from a distant colony into a sub city that can be seen as आत्म निर्भर in many respects!
There are as many as 38 RWAs managing same number of gated colonies! It was of course those who came here early, who started building RWAs to develop, grow and raise a collective voice for basic facilities like water, power, transport, security etc.
Cut to 2023, the picture is quite different! Many RWAs are riddled with intrigue and have become power centres! Worse is they have got aligned with political parties in Delhi. Most with the ruling dispensation and others with the opposition! This has unfortunately created wide gaps in terms of funds allotment, support in essential services, speed of grievance redressal and even awards!
And it is getting uglier by the day! The leaders seldom lead by a positive example. Most bureaucrats are busy keeping their political masters happy by unhesitatingly following their dictat!
Some RWAs pick up courage to press for entitlement but are discouraged, bullied and even punished in innovative ways!
Is there hope in the Federation of RWAs, revived in recent years? Only time will tell!
