The sewage system menace has created havoc for the residents of the time immemorial, but this time it was different as SLRWA has taken an initiative to tackle the issue by the horns. Mr. Dalwani, the General Secretary of SLRWA, gave a brief description of the problem and its solutions while urging the residents to participate in the activity wholeheartedly. He gave the following main reasons for the problem:
a. Non-availability of Sewer De-Silting/ jetting Machine/ Super Sucker etc. by MCG as they have only two machines for the whole Gurugram so most parts of the city are suffering due to this.
b. The sewer system was laid around three decades back, authorities prepared DPR and suggested upgradation of the infrastructure but to no avail. The overgrowing population and stilt +4 directive of the government besides allowing commercial activities in the residential areas, has escalated the situation.
c. Process of Cleaning:
• Sucking of sewer overflowing through manholes due to blockages in the sewer system.
• De-silting of the sewer system through water jetting machines and other equipment.
• Impediments- Blockages due to tree roots interfering with the sewer lines which gets broken or cracked due to this reason, blockages from manholes connecting houses before entering into the main sewer due to disposal of unwarranted material from houses.
d. Solution:
• Keep waiting for the MCG machines, the previous experience had been horrifying
• Engage a private agency to carry out the required work
e. Action taken by RWA:
• Invited several professional vendors with bright credentials. They surveyed the affected areas and discussed the technical, administrative, and financial aspects involved in clearing the blockades briefed as under-
• Deploying machines, manpower, and supervision to clear the blockages to the main government trunk sewer
• Removal of pipes/ rerouting of pipes shall be taken up separately as per the site situation.
• Estimated time – two to three months
• Estimated cost -Eight lacs
• Total estimated cost (if completed in two months’ time frame) -Sixteen lacs for machinery plus four to five lacs for replacing old damaged lines with the new ones.
• Final estimated cost for the removal of blockades-twenty to twenty-three lacs.
How to approach the issue:
• A one-time contribution should amount to Rs. Fifteen hundred per house provided if all pay, once the contribution is collected around fifteen lacs, then the vendors will be approached, so the community needs to arise and awake to eradicate this problem totally from the C block, Sushant Lok.
The general secretary, Mr. Dalwani also requested the residents to clear their dues with the field supervisors who are appointed by the RWA and would conduct door-to-door survey, to address the issue by enlisting the names manually.
Sudha Tiwari’s contribution is commendable in the whole scenario as she was the backbone in commencing the task of noting down the sites that needed repair and was always found standing to tackle any situation by being approachable to all. It is through these Samaritan’s efforts that the society gets benefitted in the time of need. Hopefully, the situation will get better if such efforts are being taken so sincerely and once again the lanes of C block will look cleaner without the overflowing of the sewer, creating eyesores for the passersby!
