Ridgewood Residents celebrated Plantation Day on 16th of July altogether to create awareness towards growing plants and involve kids during this drive. Residents of all age groups, youth and elderly along with toddlers participated in this drive arranged by RECA.
Around 35 kids joined the drive in Ridgewood and planted trees such as Amrud, Jamun, Pomegranate, Neem, Murraya, Koenigii Gulmohar-Ornamental Tree and many other saplings. To make the process fun and learning, Name Tags with the names of plants were also given to children to put next to the plant they were planting.
The history of this movement traces back to the year 1947 when MS Randhawa, a Punjabi botanist, organised a tree plantation week from 20 to 27 on 20 July 1947. You can plant a tree any day to provide shade to someone else to sit and enjoy may it provide livelihood to a Gardener.
