Pet Owners vs Residents – An Avoidable Conflict

A few days back, a spat erupted in a Noida residential society between a pet owner lady and another resident family while sharing the lift and the conflict was further raised on the social
media platform Twitter making arguments against each other.

In the viral video, it was seen that the resident family was insisting the pet owner lady put a muzzle on the dog’s mouth but the lady was reluctant to abide by it. The spat resulted in both the party using abusive language against each other.

This is a very common conflict among pet owners and other residents in a residential society. While the pet owners are familiar with the dog & its behaviour is casual & comfortable with their pet even in public places, the other residents may feel a bit uneasy with them. Also, there are incidents wherein a pet would suddenly become violent and harm the resident. A few residents do have psychological fear factors and therefore, feel uncomfortable while in close proximity with these pets. This situation results in conflicts if the pet owner is not sensitive to others’ inconvenience and at times results in unpleasant spats.

The other nuisance being faced by the residents is the pet poop not being cleared by some pet owners. Normally pet dogs are trained not to defecate in public places like walking tracks or gardens but at times if happens but is not cleaned immediately, it spoils the surrounding.

While owning a pet dog is an individual choice, it also calls for responsibility on the pet parent for not causing inconvenience to other residents.

Pet owners are therefore advised to abide by a few guidelines to make the other residents at ease. Get your pet sterilized as well as vaccinated. Leash your pet properly while taking it to a public place. Ensure punctuality to get the dog relieved itself of natural call to avoid pooing in public places and get it cleaned immediately if it happens. Put a muzzle on the pet’s face especially while sharing lift with others. Maintain a safe distance from others while with your pet in public places. Realize the fact while you are comfortable with your pet others may not be.

A bit sensible gesture on the pet owner’s part is the prerequisite to avoid conflict between the pet owner and other residents.
