Every civil society has its own way of living. Similarly, our Sector-50 residents also aspire to be at par if not above others. We all need to accept that garbage disposal is the major challenge for any authority responsible for the task. We see mountains of garbage and solid waste in the National Capital. Despite all efforts by the government agencies, the problem is yet to be resolved amicably.
In our sector, also two agencies are working to keep the sector clean and disposal of the waste after collecting from doorsteps and sweeping the roads and cleaning/desilting drains.
One agency is collecting kitchen and other waste from door to door and taking it to the compressor placed outside the sector on green belt beside Kothari School on the other side of big drain. The kitchen waste is put in the compressor and taken away in the closed container for further disposal.
On the other hand, a team of sweepers sweep all the roads outside our houses/societies and picks the waste in small rickshaw which is mostly dry and take it to the vacant plot behind State Bank and Indian Bank adjacent to Mahagun Morpheus. The waste is accumulated there, which is thereafter collected in a dumper by JCB and taken to the designated place for disposal. This arrangement has been decided and executed by the Noida Authority.
My observation to the above arrangement is that sometimes the waste although brought by sweepers is not picked up for disposal, which creates unhygienic and unhealthy conditions. Many times, house maids have been seen throwing even kitchen waste at the hump of dry waste leading to foul smell from there. The unseasonal rain also plays fuel to the fire in such situation. Many residents have complained to RWA and also informed Samvada editors to take up this matter for better and alternative arrangement.
As we see that Noida Authority has chosen the vacant plot/land owned by them behind two banks as there is no other vacant and suitable/usable space for the purpose of collection for disposing the dry waste. The only solution seems to be practically feasible is that the collection of garbage is restricted to one corner of the vacant plot preferably behind Indian Bank side which is away from the houses and heavily used road. It can be barricaded and covered from sides to prevent overthrowing of wet/kitchen waste. The daily collection and timely disposal within specified period can be ensured by Noida if RWA keeps watch on regular basis and informs Noida Authority in case of any deficiency in the service by the contractor. Residents are welcome to give suggestions for managing waste disposal more efficiently.
