As Chirag Delhi flyover gets closed on 12 Mar for 50 odd days, everyone in the colony is anxious about the traffic situation & the extra time it will take for the residents to reach home. The concern is quite natural. But PERA team has given a plan after discussing with the residents, which seems quite workable & easy to follow, rather might be helpful for the residents, who had been complaining for opening of the entry to colony to gate no. 4. The new system will get set within a few days. Till then we all have to exercise patience.
- No change in the current system, during closure of the CD flyover in East -> West direction (Nehru Place to IIT).
- Post East->West, the CD flyover will be closed in the West->East (IIT to Nehru Place) direction. PWD expects this closure to be for around 25-30 days. During this period:
a. We expect it will be very chaotic to allow non-residents vehicles to freely pass through the colony.
b. We should expect a few kilometres of vehicle line-up on Outer Ring Road (ORR), with everyone anxious to find a bye-pass.
c. Many vehicles will try to pass by trying to enter Gate 4, and exit from Gate 3.
d. Many can try to even enter from ORR in front of Gate 4, and turn into Service Lane, leading to Rockland hotel. Even this lane can turn into a traffic nightmare.
e. We would not need exit from Gate 5 barrier, as there will not be any need to turn onto the CD Flyover (given it will be closed)
Proposed Traffic Management Plan Gate 4 • Entry for residents will be via Gate 5, which will be an entry only gate (no exit). Signages will be put on ORR to make this clear. • Gate 4 will be exit-only gate. There will be no entry from Gate 4. It will be difficult to control traffic if we allow entry from Gate 4 • In order to ensure a smooth flow of traffic, entry and exit at the service lane leading to Rockland hotel will be blocked during this period. Residents can come via the wide road leading from D8 and to / from inside C Block (C-90), to exit via Gate No 4 / reach this lane • This is subject to consent from Delhi Traffic Police.
Next Steps: 1. The proposed plan was discussed in a meeting of members on 12 March 2023 and approved. - A few tactical suggestions were made regarding placement of guards, traffic cones, etc., which will be incorporated.
- As next steps: a. Any member not having the latest PERA Car Stickers is requested to collect the same from PERA Office to facilitate entry from Gate 5 (only those current in their subscription payment will be issued stickers).
b. Residents of B1 to B6 (only) are requested to collect special temporary stickers from PERA Office to be able to move from Gate 4 to Gate 5. c. PERA EC will socialise this with Soami Nagar and A Block RWAs as they tend to exit via Gate 5.
