A few days back a precious life of one of the DLF senior resident was lost in a hit and run case while on a morning walk. Not reverting on this tragic incidence as the leading circumstances are not too well known but just wish to express that if the pedestrians make it a habit to walk on the right side of the road many accidents, fatal too quite often, could be prevented.
While walking on the left one is oblivious of the fast moving vehicles coming from behind, specially in the present times trend of wearing headphones / earphones ‘apni hi lagan mein besudh’. In fact, the left hand side rule is for the moving vehicles, not for the pedestrians. The pedestrians’ rule is just opposite.
But since the childhood we have been told to follow the LHS rule even while walking on the roads. On the contrary if one walks on the right side facing traffic then all the time he would be seeing the oncoming vehicles and make timely way / escape, as necessary, greatly minimising the chances of accidental hits.
This desired road sense on the pedestrians’ safety need be publicised widely.
